Master’s Degree in Aeronautics

The aeronautics sector is currently considered one of the key sectors for achieving sustainable development in a country such as Algeria. For more than twenty years, Algeria has adopted an investment policy in training in aeronautical technology fields through the Institute of Aeronautics and Space Studies at the University of Blida.

The proposed Master’s in Avionics (Aeronautical Electronics) aims to train specialists capable of holding positions in avionics design offices, research and development, as well as study engineer positions in air transport companies and maintenance centers. Over two years of study, this program combines essential scientific and technical foundations to enable graduates to integrate into industries related to the aeronautics and space sectors, both in Algeria and abroad.

This training also aims to meet the needs of the aeronautics sector in terms of integration, adaptation, and innovation in aircraft manufacturing and maintenance in Algeria. The Master’s degree in Avionics seeks to diversify training pathways, whether research-oriented (leading to doctoral studies) or professionally oriented.


Master’s in Aircraft Propulsion

Mastery of Production Processes:
Students acquire technical skills to manage the different stages of production, from raw material intake to the packaging of final products. This includes knowledge of thermal processing, transformation, maturation, and aging processes.

Quality Control:
Students learn control and quality assurance techniques to ensure that products comply with health and regulatory standards. This includes proficiency in physical, chemical, microbiological, and sensory analyses.

Production Management:
The program provides students with skills in organizing and managing production activities, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and quality management.

Innovation and Development:
Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of innovation and the development of new products aligned with market requirements.


Master’s in Aircraft Structures

The specificity of the aeronautics field lies in its multidisciplinary nature. It includes a component dedicated to aircraft construction, covering:

  • Flight mechanics (propulsion),

  • Aircraft structures (aerodynamics, continuum mechanics, materials),

  • Avionics (aircraft electronics).

It also includes a second component focused on air navigation, covering equipment, flight operations, and air transport operation/management.

The Master’s in Space Propulsion is intended for holders of a Bachelor’s degree in Aircraft Propulsion who have acquired sufficient foundational knowledge in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and thermal propulsion. Due to this specificity, this Master’s program cannot share a common core with the other Master’s programs offered at the Institute of Aeronautics and Space Studies. However, it may share certain teaching units with some Master’s programs of the Aircraft Construction Department, such as the Master’s in Propulsion and the Master’s in Aircraft Structures.

This training also meets the needs of the aeronautics sector in areas such as:

  • The National Air Navigation Company (ENNA),

  • Airports in Algeria.


Master’s Degree in Air Operations

Master’s Degree in Air Traffic Management and Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance Systems (CNS)

The safe and efficient management of aircraft flights requires an air traffic management system based on three fundamental functions:
communication, navigation, and surveillance.

In the early 1980s, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) entrusted a committee known as FANS (Future Air Navigation Systems) with studying existing infrastructure, proposing solutions to anticipate the increasing growth of air traffic, defining new concepts and modern technologies, and issuing recommendations aimed at coordinating the development and evolution of air navigation systems.

This committee reached the following conclusions:

  • Limited coverage of direct signals,

  • Difficulties in implementing CNS means for various reasons (such as topographical factors),

  • Limited communications using conventional means,

  • A significant gap in air–ground communications, which form the backbone of automated systems.

The committee concluded that the limitations of current systems are fundamental and that this issue can only be resolved through a new CNS system, where reliance on satellite technology and data link communication represents the only viable solution. The three functions—communication, navigation, and surveillance—will thus become increasingly interconnected and interdependent.

ICAO refers to this system as CNS/ATM. To date, the civil aviation community, at both national and international levels, lacks structured training programs capable of keeping pace with the technical developments of CNS systems.

This Master’s program aims to provide training in the various satellite technologies applicable to communication, navigation, and surveillance (CNS), approached from the perspective of air traffic management. The Department of Aeronautics brings together all the competencies related to this field, enabling the delivery of a comprehensive and integrated vision of this specialization

Bachelor’s Degree in Space Communications

Objectives of the Bachelor’s Program in Space Communications

This program mainly focuses on mastering space communications, satellite broadcasting, satellite-based communications and surveillance, as well as channel coding and decoding and error correction techniques.

The training is centered on the following areas:

  • Signal processing,

  • Optics,

  • Fixed and mobile networks,

  • Fixed and mobile antenna systems,

  • Radar systems.

The establishment of cooperation with specialists from the CSIR Research Center in South Africa strengthens the human capacities of the Institute of Aeronautics and Space Studies, thereby contributing to the achievement of these objectives.

The primary goal of this specialization is to train highly skilled professionals in space communication procedures and space regulations, as part of the national effort to develop the space sector and satellite technologies in Algeria.


Master’s Degree in Space Communications

This Master’s program aims to train specialists in space communication systems and covers areas such as:

  • Satellite communications,

  • Space signal processing,

  • Space transmission and reception systems,

  • Design and operation of fixed and mobile space antennas,

  • Uplink and downlink systems,

  • Applications of space communications in aviation, navigation, and satellite broadcasting.
